The Land Rover Defender price in Kenya starts at about KES 10.5M for a three-door Defender 90 diesel and reaches KES 22M for the supercharged V8. In between sit the five-door 110, the eight-seat 130 and a range of diesel, petrol and hybrid engines. As a result, there is a Defender for city drivers in Westlands, safari operators in Narok and ranch owners in Laikipia.
The new Defender arrived in 2020. It replaced the legendary old Defender that worked Kenyan farms and parks for decades. However, the new car is very different. It is a modern, comfortable luxury 4x4 with serious off-road ability. Therefore, buyers need to understand which version fits their life and budget.
This guide covers every Defender you can import in 2026, landed prices in Kenya shillings, running costs, rivals and practical buying advice. Furthermore, it explains how Elisa Motors imports a Defender from the UK with one fixed price.

Defender 90, 110 and 130 explained
Defender 90 (three-door)
The Defender 90 D250 SE lands at about KES 10.5M – 12.5M. It is the shortest and most agile Defender. In fact, its short wheelbase makes it brilliant on tight forest tracks around Mount Kenya and in Nairobi parking.
However, rear access is tight and the boot is small. Therefore, the 90 suits couples, weekend adventurers and buyers who want a stylish second car.
Defender 110 (five-door)
The 110 is the most popular Defender in Kenya. The 110 D250 SE lands at about KES 11M – 13M. Meanwhile, the 110 P400 X costs about KES 13M – 15M.
It seats five, or seven with the optional third row. Moreover, it has a big boot for safari kit, school runs or farm supplies. For most families, it is the right Defender.
Defender 130 (eight seats)
The Defender 130 D300 X-Dynamic lands at about KES 14M – 16.5M. It stretches the body to fit eight seats in three rows. As a result, it competes with the Land Cruiser and Lexus LX for large families.
The 130 is long, so it is less agile off-road. Still, it offers huge space and comfort for long drives to Mombasa or Kisumu.
Defender V8
The Defender 110 V8 costs about KES 18M – 22M. Its supercharged 5.0 V8 is thrilling and very loud. However, it uses a lot of fuel. Therefore, it is a special-occasion car rather than a daily driver.
Defender engines: D200, D250, D300, P400 and P400e
The diesels are the best choice for most Kenyan buyers. The 3.0 six-cylinder D250 and D300 offer strong torque and decent economy. In fact, they return roughly 10–12 km/L on the highway. Consequently, they handle long safari trips without constant refuelling.
The P400 petrol is smooth and fast but thirstier. Meanwhile, the P400e plug-in hybrid can drive short distances on electricity. It suits city owners with home charging. However, safari and upcountry drivers rarely benefit from its battery.
Older cars may carry D200 or D240 badges with a four-cylinder diesel. They cost less. Still, we usually recommend the six-cylinder for its refinement and pulling power.
Trim levels: S, SE, HSE, X-Dynamic and X
Base and S trims are simpler, with steel or smaller alloy wheels. SE adds LED lights, bigger wheels and more equipment. HSE brings leather and premium comfort features.
X-Dynamic trims add tougher styling. Finally, the X is the flagship, with adaptive dynamics, a premium cabin and the most standard kit. Similarly, special editions such as Carpathian or Hard Top appear occasionally in UK stock.

Land Rover Defender 90 D250 SE (3-door). This version uses a 3.0-litre diesel engine with 249 hp, a 8-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. As a result, it returns about 12 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 10.5M – 12.5M. Furthermore, compared with lower trims, it adds short wheelbase, 5-6 seats, air suspension, Terrain Response 2.
Land Rover Defender 130 D300 X-Dynamic (8-seat). This version uses a 3.0-litre diesel engine with 300 hp, a 8-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. Similarly, it returns about 11 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 14M – 16.5M. Furthermore, compared with lower trims, it adds long body, 8 seats, three rows.
Land Rover Defender 110 V8 5.0 Supercharged. This version uses a 5.0-litre petrol engine with 525 hp, a 8-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. Meanwhile, it returns about 7 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 18M – 22M. Furthermore, compared with lower trims, it adds V8 power, 22" wheels, quad exhausts.
Every Land Rover Defender we import includes these key features: monocoque off-roader, air suspension, 90, 110 & 130 bodies, terrain Response 2 and wade depth 900 mm.
Is the Defender good for Kenyan roads?
Yes. The new Defender is one of the most capable 4x4s ever built. It has a monocoque body, air suspension on most versions, low-range gearing and Terrain Response. Moreover, its wading depth is impressive, which helps during the long rains.
It handles Mara tracks, Laikipia ranch roads and muddy upcountry routes with ease. However, it is more complex than an old Defender or a Land Cruiser 70. Therefore, remote operators far from a specialist should think carefully about servicing.
Our services: Defender imports across Kenya
Elisa Motors handles every step of your Defender import. Here is what we do for buyers in Nairobi, Nanyuki, Narok, Mombasa, Kisumu and beyond.
1. Defender sourcing from the UK
The UK is the home market for the Defender and has the deepest supply. Approved-used cars come with warranties and full service histories. We search dealers and auctions for your body style, engine, trim and colour.
MOT records and service books confirm the mileage. Read our guide to importing Land Rovers from the UK.
2. Accessory pack and safari spec advice
Many UK Defenders come with Explorer, Adventure or Country packs. These add roof racks, side lockers, snorkels and more. Furthermore, some include a rear ladder and expedition roof.
We help you choose a car with the right packs for your use. For instance, a Laikipia rancher needs different kit from a Nairobi family.
3. All-inclusive landed cost in Kenya shillings
Our quote covers the car, freight, insurance, KRA taxes, port charges, clearing and registration. In other words, you see one complete figure.
We can also compare body styles and engines. For example, we can price a 110 D250 next to a 130 D300 so you see the real difference.
4. Inspection and history checks
We check the air suspension, 4x4 system, electronics and underbody. We also run history checks for finance, theft and write-off markers.
Every car passes the KEBS-appointed roadworthiness inspection. Moreover, you see photos and video before we buy.
5. Shipping, clearing and registration
We ship by RoRo or container from UK ports to Mombasa. Our clearing team then handles KRA, KPA and verification. Subsequently, we register the car with NTSA.
See our Mombasa clearing guide for each step.
6. Delivery to safari camps, ranches and homes
We deliver to Nairobi areas such as Karen, Runda, Langata, Westlands and Kitisuru. We also deliver to Nanyuki, Nyeri, Naivasha, Narok, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu.
On the coast, we serve Mombasa, Nyali, Kilifi, Watamu and Diani. In addition, we can arrange delivery to remote lodges and conservancies by agreement.
7. Fleet orders and finance
Safari operators, conservancies and NGOs often order several Defenders. We source matching units and coordinate shipping. In addition, we provide documents for bank asset finance.
Read our car finance and insurance guide for more.
Defender vs Land Cruiser 300 vs G-Class
The Land Cruiser 300 wins on reliability, parts supply and resale value. It is the safer choice for remote areas. However, it is less comfortable on tarmac and less stylish inside.
The Mercedes G-Class is more luxurious and more iconic. Still, it costs far more. Meanwhile, the Defender sits between them, with modern comfort and real capability. Read our luxury 4x4 comparison for more.
New Defender vs old Defender and Land Cruiser 70
The old Defender was simple, tough and easy to fix with basic tools. The new one is far more comfortable, safer and faster. However, it relies on electronics. Therefore, it needs a specialist for most repairs.
If you want an old-school workhorse, the Land Cruiser 70 is the closest modern equivalent. Read our Land Cruiser 70 price guide to compare.
Defender running costs in Kenya
Fuel
The six-cylinder diesels return about 10–12 km/L on the highway. Petrol versions use more, and the V8 uses much more. Consequently, diesel is the smart choice for safari and upcountry use.
Servicing and parts
Plan for a service every 15,000 km or once a year at a Land Rover specialist. Parts are available in Nairobi, though some need ordering. Air suspension and electronics are the main areas to watch on older or hard-used cars.
Read our Land Rover maintenance guide for detailed costs.
Tyres
All-terrain tyres are popular for Kenyan conditions. They grip better on murram and resist punctures. However, they are noisier on tarmac. Many owners keep road tyres for the city and fit all-terrains before safari season.
Insurance and security
Insurance follows the car's value, and insurers usually require an approved tracker. The Defender is a theft target worldwide. Therefore, a steering lock and a signal-blocking key pouch are wise additions.
Defender prices by year
Early 2020 and 2021 Defenders are the cheapest importable cars. Later cars from 2022 onwards gained updated infotainment, the 130 body and more engine choices. As a result, they cost more.
Because the new Defender only started in 2020, every new-shape car is within the 8-year window for several more years. That helps resale value. In addition, demand for used Defenders remains strong worldwide.
Defender buying checklist
First, confirm the body style and engine match your needs. Second, check the service history and match it to the mileage. Third, test the air suspension at every height. Then check all screens, cameras and the 4x4 modes.
Next, look underneath for off-road damage. Many Defenders are used as intended, so check the sills, underbody guards and suspension arms. Finally, compare the landed cost with a fresh import quote.
Best colours and options for Kenya
Pangea Green, Gondwana Stone and Fuji White are popular Defender colours. Lighter colours stay cooler in the sun. Meanwhile, Santorini Black looks striking in the city but shows dust on safari.
Useful options include the third-row seats, the Explorer or Adventure pack, a roof rack, a snorkel and all-terrain tyres. In addition, the ClearSight ground view camera helps on rocky tracks.
Defender for safari and tourism operators
Many lodge owners and tour companies now consider the Defender for guest transfers. It offers more comfort than older vehicles and creates a premium image. However, it cannot be converted to a pop-up roof safari vehicle as easily as a Land Cruiser 70.
For game drives, most operators still use Land Cruisers. For airstrip transfers and VIP guests, the Defender 110 and 130 work very well.
Where we deliver Defenders
We serve buyers across Nairobi, including Karen, Langata, Runda, Muthaiga, Lavington, Kilimani and Kitisuru. We also serve Nanyuki, Nyeri, Meru, Naivasha, Narok, Nakuru, Kericho, Eldoret, Kitale and Kisumu. At the coast, we serve Mombasa, Nyali, Kilifi, Malindi and Diani.
